It's incredible to reflect on how ATCC has supported the global scientific community for the past 99 years. From providing the strain that helped develop Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), a method for detecting tiny quantities of genetic material, in the mid-1980s to now providing advanced biological models to speed the discovery and development of therapeutics, ATCC has long served as a springboard for numerous scientific breakthroughs.
As we’ve done for the last 99 years, in 2024 ATCC worked to advance important scientific research and the mission of government health agencies. We provided innovative products and services to advance drug discovery and development. We partnered with the federal government to support global health initiatives and the safety and security of the American public. We expanded our global reach and continue to reward and recognize our team members who make this important work possible. We are proud to share a few of our accomplishments from this year:
Advancing Scientific Research
ATCC prides itself on our unwavering commitment to upholding the integrity and veracity of sound science. We honor this commitment by providing innovative products and services, sharing our research through scientific papers, posters, webinars, blog posts, and podcasts, and serving as subject matter experts on scientific topics in the media. In 2024, ATCC contributed to advancing scientific research by:
- Offering a new product line of precisely quantitated microbial reference materials, MicroQuant™, used to streamline microbial quality control testing in pharmaceutical manufacturing.
- Enabling researchers to get faster results from critical assays with ThawReady™ cells.
- Ensuring the highest quality and performance for drug development needs with our HepatoXcell™ Primary Human Hepatocytes.
- Helping food manufacturers and stakeholders address challenges, meet industry standards, and advance scientific knowledge in the field of food production and biotechnology.
- Growing our collection by adding 217 accessions, including contemporary influenza strains and highly characterized antibiotic-resistant strains.
- Launching several new in vitro models including 5 immuno-oncology reporter cell lines, 7 HCMI organoid models, and 42 molecular standards, including a synthetic Avian Influenza standard. We also rebuilt NIH/3T3, which was a top selling cell line that had lost one of its key properties.
- Continuing to provide researchers with high-quality, annotated data to perform bioinformatics analyses and make insightful correlations by offering 5,084 microbial genomes through our ATCC Genome Portal.
- Hosting 16 webinars highlighting innovative research and development being performed by thought leaders in science for more than 3,000 registrants.
- Publishing 26 posts on our blog, Credible Conversations, highlighting the impactful and innovative work being done at ATCC.
- Sharing 15 Behind the Biology podcast episodes featuring discussions between ATCC experts, collaboration partners, and industry leaders.
- Presenting 38 scientific posters at conferences, meetings, and tradeshows to showcase research findings to the scientific community, initiate important conversations, and promote future collaborations.
- Publishing 11 peer-reviewed publications highlighting our scientific presence in immuno-oncology, extracellular vesicles, infectious disease, microphysiological systems, cellular pathology, genomics, and more.
- Contributing to 10 industry articles in Biocompare, BioPharm International, Chemical & Engineering News, Technology Networks, and more, showcasing ATCC’s expertise in various scientific fields.
Supporting the Federal Government’s Global Health Initiatives
