Duchess Assay Ready Cells Workflow

"As a tenured professor and the director of a fast-paced molecular virology laboratory, time and consistency are everything. ThawReady™ Assay Ready THP-1 Cells have completely transformed our workflow. The convenience of having high-quality, pre-validated cells ready to use straight from the freezer has saved us countless hours in cell culture prep and reduced variability across experiments.”

Dr. Fatah Kashanchi, Professor, George Mason University

Post-thaw viability of Assay Ready THP-1 NF-κB-Luc2 cells
  • Ready within hours of thawing — rapid assay setup and faster results
  • High post-thaw viability — consistency across multiple batches and operators
  • Eliminate lengthy cell expansion workflows — streamlined processes and time savings
  • Reduce variability — minimized inconsistencies tied to traditional cell culture
  • Support high-throughput screening — flexible scheduling and scalable experimentation
  • Improve assay consistency — dependable performance across replicates
  • Minimize labor and consumable costs — reduced need for media, plasticware, and equipment
  • Low intra-lot and inter-lot variation — reproducibility you can trust
  • Flexible formats — offered in multiple pack sizes with or without luciferase reporter options

"What impressed us most was the exceptional viability and performance of the cells post-thaw. We’ve used them in multiple high-throughput screening assays (i.e., drug screening against HIV-1 infection as well as drugs of abuse on these cells), and the reproducibility has been outstanding. I highly recommend ThawReady™ to any lab looking to streamline operations without compromising on data quality.”

Applications

Our first ThawReady™ models are THP-1 and THP-1 NF-kB-Luc2. This monocyte cell line was isolated from peripheral blood of an acute monocytic leukemia patient and is now available in an assay ready format for faster results in your critical assays. These cells are versatile and can be used in various research applications:

  • Immune system disorder research: THP-1 cells are valuable for studying immune responses, inflammation, and immune cell interactions.
  • Immunology research: Investigate cytokine production, phagocytosis, and immune signaling pathways.
  • Toxicology research: Assess drug toxicity and evaluate immune-related effects.

View our frequently asked questions

What are the available packaging options for ThawReady™ Cells?

The available packaging options for these assay ready cells include:

  • single vial
  • 3 vial pack
  • 5 vial pack
  • 10 vial pack

How do ThawReady™ Cells compare to cells prepared from culture?

The preservation reagent allows them to be used at thaw without any loss of function or the need for recovery and culturing. ThawReady™ Cells were tested in multiple assays along with freshly cultured cells and were found to perform similarly. Reference data is available in the technical data sheet and associated application notes found on the ATCC ThawReady™ Cells product page.

Are there any specific handling instructions for ThawReady™ Cells?

Yes, please refer to the product information sheet and specific thawing and handling protocols that are available for each of the assay ready cell lines. The product information sheet and protocol are available on the ATCC ThawReady™ Cells individual product pages.

We do not have enough Liquid Nitrogen (LN2) vapor phase space, can we store the ThawReady™ Cells in LN2 liquid phase? How about -80°C freezer?

These assay ready cells can be stored in liquid phase LN2 if you do not have enough vapor phase space, however we do not recommend -80°C for ThawReady™ Cell storage.

How are ThawReady™ Cells produced?

These assay ready cells are cultured, and banked at scale, ensuring stability and functionality for extended periods.
