CEO Perspective: An Incredible Year at ATCC

ATCC is more than just a biorepository—we support critical research areas and Public Health by providing the authenticated biological materials, cutting-edge techniques, and reference-quality 'omics data needed to make incredible scientific breakthroughs. We partner with like-minded organizations to drive innovation in life science research. To support this important research into the future, we’re expanding into markets with growing needs, launching comprehensive products and services, continuing to partner in supporting global health security initiatives, and enabling the creation of new technologies for the academic, government, and commercial communities. We pride ourselves on our unwavering commitment to upholding the integrity and veracity of sound science.

Our employees are scientists and professionals in various fields driven by our common goal of advancing and applying scientific discovery. I am pleased to share a few of our key highlights from 2023 and look forward to the incredible breakthroughs we will enable in the future.

1. Our recognition as a top-rated employer locally, nationally, and within the life sciences industry. This year, we received recognition from:

2. Our strategic collaboration with U.S. Pharmacopeia (USP) provides solutions and standards to help customers deliver safe and high-quality biologics to patients more rapidly:

• In February, we announced a multi-year strategic collaboration with USP to jointly provide co-branded reference materials and reference standards that serve to advance the quality and development of biologic medicines and therapies.
• In October, we announced the launch of our first set of joint products to advance the quality control and reduce the risk in the manufacturing of biological therapies and vaccines.

3. The Federal Solutions (AFS) Team continues to accomplish incredible work in supporting public health initiatives for the US government. Year to date, ATCC has been awarded 14 new contracts with a total overall value of $320 million. Learn more about these awards and projects:

• Participation with Areté on IARPA Contract to Develop New Methods for Identifying Low-dose Radiation Exposure
• New Award from BARDA to Further Support its Medical Countermeasures Clinical Studies Network
• Award from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases to Support Its Preclinical Services for Biopharmaceutical Product Development
• ATCC Products to be Used in Microgravity Experiments on the International Space Station
• Comprehensive and Rapid Response to NIAID Research Programs (CARRRP) Award from NIAID
• Award from NIAID to Consolidate its BEI Resources and NIH HIV Reagent Programs

4. The premiere of our inspirational Vision Video highlighting ATCC’s place in history as a trusted resource, how our products touch the lives of so many people around the world, and how we will support life science research into the future.

5. Recognizing and celebrating our dedicated employees committed to advancing our mission of providing scientists the tools they need to make discoveries that improve and save lives. We proudly reward our employees through our internal recognition program and career development, and we provide engaging experiences for employees to connect, learn, and have meaningful participation in the company-wide enterprises. This year, over 100 employees received promotions! 
6. In support of our vision to be the recognized leader in sourcing and distributing biological reference materials through the acquisition of new content, development of reference standards, and thought leadership around how biological research can be improved through standardization and certification of biological materials, ATCC launched and accessioned 244 products. 
7. Sharing our scientific impact with the community. ATCC colleagues share knowledge by contributing to industry articles, presenting scientific posters, hosting webinars and workshops, attending tradeshows, and more. In addition to our peer reviewed publications, abstracts, and white papers, we:

• Contributed to 26 industry articles in BioCompare, BioPharm International, BioBuzz, and more, showcasing ATCC’s expertise in various scientific fields.
• Hosted 15 webinars highlighting innovative research and development being performed by thought leaders in science for more than 2,000 registrants.
• Showcased ATCC’s products and services at seven tradeshows across the United States.
• Presented 14 scientific posters at conferences, meetings, and tradeshows to showcase research findings to the scientific community, initiate important conversations, and promote future collaborations.
