As we look ahead to the next century of discovery, the need for gold-standard science and traceability has never been greater. ATCC is committed to advancing next-generation biological standards and models and generating authenticated datasets alongside our authenticated microbial strains and cell lines. These innovations will empower researchers to explore biology with unprecedented precision, opening new pathways for medical advances, biomanufacturing, AI-driven in silico discovery, and more.
Through global partnerships with leading research institutions and consortia, ATCC ensures that scientists worldwide have access to standardized, high-quality resources, fostering collaborative innovation that transcends borders and drives breakthroughs in every region. Domestically, we have partnered with the federal government for over 60 years, contributing to national priorities in health, biosecurity, and domestic biomanufacturing by providing authenticated, high-quality materials fully traceable to validated data.
Alternatives to Animal Testing
The scientific landscape is undergoing a profound transformation as the FDA and NIH champion frameworks that prioritize human-based research technologies over traditional animal testing. The shift toward New Approach Methodologies (NAMs)—including human cell–based assays, organoid toxicity testing, and AI-powered models—is redefining how safety and efficacy are established in preclinical studies.
ATCC is at the forefront of this transition, equipping researchers with the authenticated cells, organoids, and MPS-qualified biologicals paired with harmonized protocols needed to replace animal models with human-relevant systems. Authenticated cells are critical building blocks for 3-D models and ATCC ensures these resources are rigorously qualified and validated to deliver reliability for complex experimental platforms.
Through our collaboration with The Human Cancer Models Initiative (HCMI), ATCC provides nearly 350 human-derived cell lines and organoids, spanning 28 tissue types and diverse demographics, offering direct alternatives to animal models. These authenticated materials minimize variability, and advanced 3-D systems replicate human physiology with unprecedented accuracy. By enabling researchers to adopt NAMs, ATCC supports the global scientific community in reducing reliance on animal testing, accelerating the transition to next-generation models that pair authenticated biomaterials with harmonized protocols and curated genomic data.
Unlocking Discoveries through Digital Biology
In the era of digital biology, data accuracy defines the future of discovery. ATCC empowers researchers by delivering authenticated biomaterials paired with high-quality, curated omics data, providing a foundation for reliable AI predictions and precision insights that accelerate scientific breakthroughs. By creating traceable, high-quality datasets matched to our physical biological materials, ATCC is enabling scientists to perform data-driven research that can help identify gene targets, predict drug responses, simulate cell behavior, and more. ATCC is leading the way in predictive modeling by offering the unique combination of physical source materials with the corresponding ‘omics data.
At the heart of this transformation is the ATCC Genome Portal, a rapidly expanding platform that provides next-generation sequencing data from rigorously authenticated biomaterials in the ATCC collection. The ATCC Genome Portal enables researchers to perform confident bioinformatics analyses, uncover meaningful connections, and drive reproducible science forward.
Ultimately, the reliability of biological insights depends entirely on the quality of the data, and most importantly, the source materials. With ATCC’s trusted resources, discovery will advance in ways unimaginable a century ago.
