ATCC Expands Role in Supporting the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Monoclonal Antibody Reference Materials
ATCC will support the preparation of industry‑standard monoclonal antibody reference materials that enable reproducible science and accelerate therapeutic innovation.
ATCC has been awarded a new contract (1333ND25PNB640589) from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Acquisition Management Division (AMD), to support the preparation and maintenance of two important monoclonal antibody (mAb) reference materials: NISTmAb (RM 8671) and cNISTmAb (RM 8672). These materials help ensure that laboratories and biopharmaceutical companies around the world are using consistent, reliable methods when developing and evaluating antibody‑based therapies.
Monoclonal antibodies are widely used in modern medicine, and having trusted reference materials ensures that scientific measurements are accurate and comparable across organizations. This consistency speeds up research, improves accuracy, and supports the development of safer, more effective treatments.
ATCC will perform key bioprocessing steps, including filling, packaging, and labeling to prepare these reference materials for use in research and biomanufacturing. The NISTmAb reference material is an industry standard, providing a platform for harmonization and technology development that supports the creation and testing of future antibody‑based medicines. Through rigorous manufacturing and standards expertise, ATCC supports federal efforts – such as those led by NIST – to enhance reproducibility and strengthen the nation’s scientific infrastructure.
“For more than 100 years, ATCC has provided trusted biological materials and standards that help scientists make discoveries to improve public health,” said Rebecca Bradford, MBA, MS, PMP, senior vice president of ATCC Federal Solutions. “Our long‑standing collaboration with NIST reflects a shared commitment to advancing global scientific standards. Together with NIST, we’re helping provide the standards that strengthen our nation’s scientific and public health capabilities.”
This work reflects ATCC’s ongoing commitment to advancing trusted standards that drive scientific progress and support public health. Learn more about ATCC’s role in advancing global health.
