ATCC determines the biosafety level of a material based on our risk assessment as guided by the current edition of Biosafety in Microbiological and Biomedical Laboratories (BMBL), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. It is your responsibility to understand the hazards associated with the material per your organization’s policies and procedures as well as any other applicable regulations as enforced by your local or national agencies.

Detailed product information

Specific applications
Genome sequencing strain
Enteric Research
Food and waterborne pathogen research

This preparation of high molecular weight DNA is appropriate for use in the polymerase chain reaction (PCR)* process and other molecular biology applications. *The PCR process is covered by patents owned by Hoffmann-La Roche Inc. Use of the PCR process requires a license.

Handling information

Handling procedure
  1. Rehydrate contents of vial with 1X TE or molecular grade H2O.
  2. Place vial at 55°C for 30 minutes to 1 hour or at 22°C overnight.
Handling notes
Genomic DNA isolated from protists is appropriate for PCR* and other molecular biology applications.
*The polymerase chain reaction (PCR) process is covered by patents owned by Hoffmann-LaRoche Inc.  Use of the PCR process requires a license.

Quality control specifications

Integrity of DNA was determined by electrophoresis on a 1% agarose gel stained with SYBR Safe™, and was found to be of high molecular weight.
Functional tests
Functional activity was confirmed by PCR amplification of a 1.8 kb fragment of the Giardia lamblia CTP synthase gene.
Identity confirmed by sequencing of 1.8 kb PCR product.
