Manassas, VA, United States
November 02, 2023ATCC, the world’s premier biological materials management and standards organization, today announced the appointment of Alfredo Molinolo, MD, PhD, Director of the Biorepository and Tissue Technology Shared Resource (BTTSR) at the Moores Cancer Center, the University of California San Diego, to its Board of Directors. Dr. Molinolo is a Professor in the Department of Pathology, and in his current role, he oversees the development of efficient ways to collect, process, store, maintain, and share a validated biospecimen collection from human and experimental sources. His work also includes research in different models of human cancer, primarily focused on oral and breast cancer, as well as multiplexing immunohistochemistry and protein expression quantification and digital pathology.
“Alfredo’s scientific expertise in pathology, oncology, and histotechnology will be a great resource for our company,” said ATCC Chairman and CEO Raymond H. Cypess, DVM, PhD. “His strong research background and work experience in academia and the public and private sectors will also be an asset as we continue to expand our partnerships with scientists in these institutions.”
Dr. Molinolo and team designed the first head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) specific tissue microarray with samples from eight different countries, building upon his research efforts as a staff scientist at the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, a branch of the National Institutes of Health. Previously, he also worked as a scientist at the World Health Organization’s International Agency for Research in Cancer and as a pathologist at the Institute of Biology and Experimental Medicine (IBYME) in Argentina. Dr. Molinolo earned both his PhD in oncology and MD in medicine from the University of Buenos Aires in Argentina. He completed his residency program in the Department of Pathology at the Hospital Rivadavia in Buenos Aires. Dr. Molinolo has received several awards and has written numerous publications about breast, oral, and head and neck cancer.
“Serving on the Board is an opportunity for me to make further contributions to science,” said Dr. Molinolo. “ATCC plays such an important role in today’s life science research, and I look forward to sharing my knowledge with the company as it continues to be a vital source for the products, services, and resources researchers need for their work.”
