Upon thawing, the conversion of the liquid nitrogen back to its gas phase may result in the vial exploding or blowing off its cap with dangerous force creating flying debris. Unless necessary, ATCC recommends that these cultures be stored in the vapor phase of liquid nitrogen rather than submersed in liquid nitrogen.

Handling procedure
1. Open vial according to enclosed instructions.

2. Before inoculation of #1751 broth, fetal bovine serum      needs to be added.  A 5% concentration is best (for example, 0.3 ml added to a 6 ml tube of #1751 broth).

3. From a single tube of #1751 broth (5 to 6 ml), withdraw approximately 0.5 to 1 ml with a Pasteur or 1.0 ml pipette.  Rehydrate the entire pellet.

4. Aseptically transfer this aliquot back into the broth tube.  Mix well.

5. Use several drops of the suspension to inoculate a second tube of broth, a slant and/or plate.

6. Incubate all tubes and plate at 18°C for 72 hours.

Handling notes
Colonies on #1751 agar are yellow, translucent, glistening, small, circular, and entire.  Cells are long, thin, non-motile rods. 

To have good growth in #1751 broth, Fetal Bovine Serum needs to be added as a supplement between a 2 - 5% concentration, with the best growth occurring at a 5% concentration.
