Abstract
Ensuring the molecular quality and authenticity of biomaterials is critical for the reproducibility and reliability of scientific research. ATCC® supports these efforts by maintaining a vast collection of highly authenticated and characterized biomaterials that are widely used across the biological sciences. However, as genetic and molecular data become increasingly complex, the need for more rigorous quality assurance processes has become essential.
To address these challenges, ATCC® is building the comprehensive reference omics database ATCC® Cell Line Land. This database provides access to whole-exome and transcriptome sequencing data along with detailed gene expression analyses and genetic status information for ATCC® cell models. By integrating next-generation sequencing technologies, bioinformatics, and expertly curated reference data, we are creating a robust framework to ensure the validity and molecular integrity of ATCC® cell model collections.
Our work involves mapping transcriptomic landscapes, performing variant analyses, and standardizing data to deliver a reliable platform for researchers to verify the identity and quality of their biomaterials. To date, we have completed whole-transcriptome and exome sequencing for over 600 human and mouse cell lines. These datasets lay the foundation for improved quality control, the elimination of molecular ambiguity, the reduction of contamination risks, and enhanced reproducibility in biomedical research.
In this presentation, we will share our progress in sequencing cell models, discuss the challenges we’ve encountered, and outline long-term strategies to maintain these databases as indispensable global resources for the scientific community.
