Frank suggested that ATCC's future lies in vertical growth through revolutionary advancements and major technological innovations, similar to venture capital strategies, to ensure sustainable growth. They acknowledged that while contracts, outbreaks, and pandemics are unpredictable, ATCC is well-prepared to handle such events. Standards will remain integral to ATCC's operations, and David expressed excitement about ATCC's role in developing standards, particularly in bioinformatics.

Frank Simione, MS

Director, Standards, Standards Resource Center (Retired), ATCC

Frank P. Simione, Jr. retired from ATCC after a 42-year career. He is known for authoring Transformation of an Icon: ATCC and the New Business Model, which chronicles the organization's evolution. Mr. Simione served as an advisor to the ATCC President and CEO, and Director of Standards for the ATCC Standards Resource Center. Additionally, Mr. Simione was a member of the senior management team for 26 years. His previous management roles at ATCC have included oversight of operations, government contracts, compliance and safety, patent deposits, workshops and training, biocollections, and standards.

David Yarmosh, MS

Lead Bioinformatician, ATCC

David Yarmosh is a lead bioinformatician in ATCC’s Sequencing and Bioinformatics Center. He’s a graduate of New York University’s Tandon School of Engineering. He has been working in large data aggregation and analysis since 2013 and microbial genomics with a focus on biosurveillance R&D efforts since 2016. David has led international training exercises in Peru and Senegal, sharing metagenomic analytical capabilities. His interests include genomics database construction, metadata collection, drug resistance mechanisms, bioinformatics standards, and machine learning. Since joining ATCC in 2020, David has worked extensively in SARS-CoV-2 classification, epidemiology, and genomics evaluation, including enhanced and uniform variant reporting. He has contributed more broadly to genomics reporting and analytical standardization and he has helped develop the podcast Behind the Biology, which he now hosts.
