ATCC to Present at Upcoming Association of Molecular Pathology Conference

News Release

Subject matter experts to emphasize the importance and need for consistent, reliable standards for next-generation sequencing

Manassas, VA, United States

October 16, 2017

Subject matter experts from ATCC, a global leader in biological materials development, management, and standards, will be presenting at the upcoming Association of Molecular Pathology (AMP) conference in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Liz Kerrigan, ATCC Director of Commercial Partnerships and Standards, will lead the discussion “SEQC-II Somatic Mutation Working Group – Reference Materials for Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)-Based Tests” during the AMP Reference Material Forum on November 14. This presentation will focus on the availability and need for reference materials in test validation, quality control, and proficiency testing, and will be followed by group discussion.

During the AMP Corporate Workshop on November 15, Ms. Kerrigan will be joined by Dr. Dev Mittar, ATCC Lead Scientist, and Nick Greenfield, Founder & CEO of One Codex, to discuss the development of ATCC’s new microbiome standards and their use as universal controls for microbiome analyses and assay development. “One of the primary obstacles in the standardization of metagenomics analysis methods used in microbiome research is the availability of appropriate reference materials and analytical tools,” stated Dr. Joseph Leonelli, Vice President of ATCC Federal Solutions. “To support this, ATCC has developed mock microbial communities from fully sequenced and characterized ATCC strains that were selected based on relevant phenotypic and genotypic attributes, making them ideal for use as controls in the analysis of mixed microbial populations.” This workshop, entitled “Microbiome Standards for Next-Generation Sequencing,” will take place from 11:00-11:50 AM in room 250C of the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center.

Data on the new ATCC Microbiome Standards, as well as information on ATCC’s quantitative genomic DNAs for oncology molecular diagnostics, will also be available during both the AMP Corporate Workshop and the Annual Meeting.
