ASM Microbe 2018 (June 7-11, 2017, Atlanta, GA) showcases the best microbial sciences in the world, and provides a one-of-a-kind forum to explore the complete spectrum of microbiology from basic science to translation and application.

Meet The Scientists:

Dev MittarDev Mittar, Ph.D.
Lead Scientist, ATCC
Friday, June 8
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Dr. Mittar is a lead scientist and the head of the microbiology R&D group at ATCC. At ATCC, he has been instrumental in the development of controls and standards for various infectious microorganisms with applications in the area of molecular diagnostics and clinical, food, and pharmaceutical microbiology. He led the development of ATCC Microbiome standards with a goal to help microbiome researchers standardize their methods. Visit Dr. Mittar at the ATCC booth to learn more about the need for standards for microbiome research.

Dr. Sujatha R. RashidSujatha Rashid, Ph.D.
Scientist, ATCC
Saturday, June 9
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Dr. Rashid is a virology scientist at ATCC. At ATCC, she has lead management oversight of the virology collection in Microbiology and Infectious Diseases Biological Resources Repository (MID-BRR), also known publicly as BEI Resources, which is a government-funded biorepository managed by ATCC. She has extensive experience in medical virology and specializes in virology, infectious disease, biodefense, and bioproduction. Visit Dr. Rashid at the ATCC booth to learn more about viral propagation techniques.

Marco RiojasMarco Riojas, Ph.D.
Scientist, ATCC/BEI Resources
Sunday, June 10
11:00 AM – 1:00 PM

Dr. Riojas is a scientist with ATCC/BEI Resources. At ATCC, he has been instrumental in the detection and characterization of bacterial pathogens and the development and optimization of new molecular-based assays and techniques. His primary research interests include biodefense, bacterial systematics, phylogenomics, and genomic identification of species. Visit Dr. Riojas at the ATCC booth to learn more about next-generation sequencing.
