ATCC has assembled a new collection of recent, clinically relevant, and extensively characterized antimicrobial-resistant isolates with validated genotypic and phenotypic activity against a variety of critical drug classes. With each strain in the new ATCC® Clinical Isolates Collection, you can expect:

  • Susceptibility data – MIC* values and susceptibility profiles for targeted drugs
  • Genetic data – DNA sequence information for antibiotic resistance genes and 16S rRNA genes
  • Source information – Geography, collection date, patient age and gender, and collection site

Each multidrug-resistant strain delivers expanded levels of source metadata and genomic characterization, creating essential tools for all stages of the discovery and development process for novel antimicrobials and therapeutics, molecular-based detection assays, and updated sterility protocols.

Support Research On Priority Pathogens

In response to the growing levels of antimicrobial resistance among pathogens, the World Health Organization recently prepared a list of priority pathogens to help direct research and development efforts toward the production of novel drugs. This list is organized into priority levels of critical, high, and medium.

To support these efforts, ATCC provides strains within the ATCC® Clinical Isolates Collection that represent critical priority pathogens:

  • Acinetobacter baumannii – carbapenem-resistant
  • Pseudomonas aeruginosa – carbapenem-resistant
  • Enterobacteriaceae – carbapenem-resistant, 3rd generation cephalosporin-resistant

As the ATCC® Clinical Isolates Collection expands, ATCC will continue to seek out additional strains that represent pathogens within each of the priority levels. Make sure you check back often for new additions!

*The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) ranges for resistant, intermediate, and susceptible are based on criteria within the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) Performance Standards for Antimicrobial Susceptibility Testing, 26th Edition. Please note that several drug types, including Ceftazidime-avibactam, Ceftrixone, Colistin, Colistin-P80, and Tigecycline, may not currently have CLSI-recommended MIC ranges available for all of the strains tested, and thus cannot be classified as resistant, intermediate, or susceptible. However, the MIC values for these drug types will be provided upon purchase. Breakpoints on some of these compounds have been set by regulatory bodies in individual geographies or countries, and breakpoints are also provided for some organisms by manufacturers.
