FAQ's FAQ Home | Ask a Question Find Answers Propagating ATCC® HTB-26 How should I propagate ATCC® HTB-26 ™, MDA-MB-231 cells? The ATCC propagates ATCC® HTB-26 ™, MDA-MB-231 in Leibovitz's L-15 medium with 2 mM L-glutamine, 90%; fetal bovine serum, 10%. Leibovitz's L-15 medium is formulated for use in a non-CO2 incubator. The ATCC does not heat-inactivate the FBS. We recommend that you do not use an anti-fungal agent in the medium, because antimycotics can be toxic to many cell lines. Serum lots differ in growth promoting abilities; therefore, you may need to try another lot of FBS if growth is extremely slow. Increasing the FBS to 20% may also help to increase the growth rate. It is important to note that the cells lift off when the culture gets heavy. A photomicrograph of this cell line is available in the product description for ATCC® HTB-26 ™on the ATCC website.
