Derived from bacterially contaminated ATCC® VR-862™. Treated with multiple freeze thaws and filtrations (0.45 µm filters twice and 0.2 µm filter once) to remove bacterial contaminants.
Effect on Host
In cell culture, cells appear swollen and syncytial, with eventual rounding and sloughing of cells; forms plaques.
On chorio-allantoic membrane (CAM) virus forms pocks.

Growth Conditions

Recommendations for Infection:  Plant cells 24 hours in advance and infect when cultures are 70-80% confluent.   Remove medium and inoculate with a small volume of virus diluted with VGM to provide a MOI of about 0.1.  Adsorb 1 hour at 37°C in a humidified 5% CO2 atmosphere, rocking every 15-20 minutes to redistribute inoculum.  End adsorption by adding VGM.

Incubation: Incubate infected Vero cell culture for 2-4 days at 37°C in a humidified 5% CO2 atmosphere, until CPE are well advance through 90% of the culture. Incubate for 3 days on CAM.

  • Customer Acceptance of Responsibility, ATCC Form 62 required for distribution.
  • Customers located in the state of Hawaii will need to contact the Hawaii Department of Agriculture to determine if an Import Permit is required. A copy of the permit or documentation that a permit is not required must be sent to ATCC in advance of shipment.
  • USDA APHIS VS 16-6 or 16-6A permit must be obtained and a copy of the permit must be sent to ATCC in advance of shipment. The Application Form VS 16-3 (Import controlled material import or transport organisms or vectors) must be submitted to USDA APHIS Veterinary Services to obtain the VS 16-6 or 16-6A permit.
