This plasmid is distributed in Streptococcus lactis.
Preferred streptococci host strains include S. lactis, S. lactis subsp. diacetylactis and S. cremoris.
High frequency conjugal transfer plasmid, confering phage restriction and modification activity and lactose fermentation to group N Streptococci.
The plasmid contains the following restriction sites (approximate kb from the SmaI site unique in pTR1040): BamHI--51, 93; BglI--23, 71; KpnI--25, 36, 54, 57; PstI--15, 35, 59, 86, 101; PvuI--31, 61, 75; SalI--18, 100; SmaI--0, 83, 102.
pTN1060 confers the following phenotype: Tra+, Lac+, nisR, R/M, and Clu-. nisR indicates resistance to the antimicrobial protein nisin and Clu- indicates the absence of the clumping phenotype. Cell aggregation is not imposed on transconjugants.
Verified to be gram positive, nisR and to grow in chains.
