Derivation
The DS-1 cell line was established from cells in the pleural effusion from an immunodeficient patient with intestinal lymphangiectasia.

Subculturing
Cultures can be maintained by addition of fresh medium. Alternatively, cultures can be established by centrifugation with subsequent resuspension at 2 x 105 cells/mL. Maintain cultures between 1 x 105 and 2 x 106 cells/mL. Recovery of this line from the frozen state is improved by using a feeder layer of irradiated MRC-5 cells (ATCC 55-X).
