When the cells are grown in chemically defined medium (RPMI 1640 medium without serum), they produce IL-1 in response to stimulation with phorbol myristic acid (PMA) and lipopolysaccharide (LPS).
Tested and found negative for ectromelia virus (mousepox).

This line is a derivative of P388D1 (ATCC CCL-46).

Subculturing
Subcultivation Ratio: A subcultivation ratio of 1:2 is recommended
Medium Renewal: 2 to 3 times per week
Subcultures are prepared by scraping. Remove one-half of the old medium, add fresh, dislodge cells from the floor of the flask, aspirate and dispense into new flasks.
