Derivation
Animals were immunized with cells from the human T cell line, Jurkat, E6-1 (ATCC TIB-152). Spleen cells were fused with Sp2/0 myeloma cells. The antibody is specific for the beta chain of the T cell antigen receptor (TCR) on Jurkat cells. It is useful for studying the T cell receptor signaling pathway using the Jurkat cell model.

Complete Growth Medium The base medium for this cell line is ATCC-formulated RPMI-1640 Medium, Catalog No. 30-2001. To make the complete growth medium, add the following components to the base medium: fetal bovine serum to a final concentration of 10%.
Subculturing
Protocol: Cultures can be maintained by addition of fresh Medium. Alternatively, cultures can be established by centrifugation with subsequent resuspension at 1 to 2 X 10(5) viable cells/ml. Maintain cultures at a cell concentration between 1 X 10(5) and 1 X 10(6) cells/ml. Do not allow the cell concentration to exceed 1 X 10(6) cells/ml.
Medium Renewal: Add fresh medium every 2 to 3 days (depending on cell density)

Freeze medium: culture medium 95%; DMSO, 5%
Storage temperature: liquid nitrogen vapor phase
