This is one of six bacteriophage strains deposited at the ATCC (97537-97539 are lambda strains and 97540-97542 are P22 strains) that remain in the mouse circulatory system for long periods of time. They are potential therapeutic agents for bacteremias.

Comments
There is a G->A transition at nucleotide 6606 of the lambda capsid E major head protein gene in Argo2. This results in a lysine(basic) to glutamate(acidic) substitution. There is also an undetermined mutation in the capsid D major head protein gene.
To recover bacteriophage, adsorb lysate for 18 minutes at 37C to an overnight culture of Escherichia coli MG1655. Plate the adsorbtion mixture onto LB agar plates, and then incubate overnight at 37C.
