ATCC scientists employ cutting-edge technologies and strive to perform all activities, including acquisition, preservation, authentication and production of biological materials, at the highest standards. ATCC conducts independent research in support of its mission to provide high-quality reagents (some of which serve as standards) for academia, government and industry. Significant emphasis within ATCC's science program is placed on translational research — investigation aimed at transforming basic science discoveries into medicines and research products. Researchers at ATCC use modern techniques in molecular biology, genomics, proteomics, immunology and bioinformatics to search for biomarkers associated with diseases, as well as develop new assays and evaluate new authentication and preservation technologies. Research and development programs at ATCC include the development of disease-specific biomarkers for diagnostic and therapeutic applications in pancreatic cancer, cancer stem cells, type 2 diabetes and infectious diseases.
