ATCC offers the following custom services to customers. For more information, please contact the ATCC Molecular Authentication Resource Center (MARC) at: MARCgroup@atcc.org.
Sequencing analyses -- ATCC offers genomic sequencing analysis to customers.
Species identification -- ATCC uses barcode analyses (sequencing short DNA regions conserved within species) for species identification of eukaryotic cell lines, protists, bacteria, yeast, fungi and viruses. ATCC also offers a rapid PCR-based assay for identification and detection of cross-contamination for most common eukaryotic cell lines.
STR analysis -- ATCC offers STR (short tandem repeats) analyses for identification of human cells.
Mycoplasma testing -- ATCC MARC offers tests for mycoplasma infection. Both the FDA “Points to Consider” method, and a rapid PCR-based method are used for detection of mycoplasma and species identification.
Karyotypic and other cytogenetic analyses are an additional tool for further identification and authentication of cell lines complementary to DNA profiling analyses. Cytogenetics applies mainly to our cell line collection. Cell lines are analyzed while being accessioned into the ATCC collection.
Karyotyping (Human cells) -- ATCC can conduct standard analysis of metaphase chromosome using a G-banding technique. High-resolution analysis of prometaphase chromosomes using G-banding and other banding procedures as required.
Karyotyping (Mammalian cells) -- Standard analysis of metaphase chromosomes from a wide variety of mammalian species, including, but not restricted to, mouse, dog, pig, as well as mouse stem cells standard metaphase chromosome analysis of various primate species.
Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) Analysis -- Fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) is a molecular cytogenetic technique used for detection of specific chromosomal rearrangements and applicable to many different specimen types. FISH is used for a variety of applications; several of these applications are listed below:
-
Gene Mapping
-
Localization of chromosome break points
-
Estimation of gene copy number in interphase
-
Determination of interphase zygosity of transgenic mice
-
Comparative Genomic Hybridization Analysis (CGH)
-
Assessment of chromosome loss, gain, or amplification in a sample of genomic DNA by competitive hybridization of two genomes against a target cell
Gene Synthesis and Cloning -- ATCC combines oligonucleotide design and PCR amplification for gene synthesis. Artificially synthesized genes are cloned into expression vectors upon customer request.
Gene Expression and Transcriptome Profiling -- ATCC offers gene expression analyses and transcriptome profiling via real-time PCR. ATCC can assist customers with experimental design, selection of primers and detection method.
Generation of Hybridomas -- The ATCC immunology core develops hybridoma cell lines upon customer request.
DNA, RNA and Protein Extractions -- Based on customer request, ATCC offers DNA, RNA and protein extracts for many of the cell lines and organisms available in the ATCC catalog.
