Viruses and Related Reagents

The ATCC Virology Collection has more than 2,000 viruses and associated reagents. Many organisms in the collection include type strains from different host species. Our organism seed stock system ensures that every new preparation made at ATCC is as close as possible to the original culture deposited with us. Products are supplied with Product Data Sheets giving basic guidelines for propagation of the organisms and references pertaining to their isolation and characterization. Cell lines used for propagation of most items are available through our Cell Biology Collection.

The collection features the following reagents:
  • Major disease outbreaks are associated with circulation of influenza virus types A and B in the human population. The ATCC Virology Collection includes a number of examples of each virus type from a variety of sources, grown both in chicken embryos and tissue culture.
  • Immunological reagents to many viral agents are also available through the Virology Collection, including neutralizing antisera for strain typing and monoclonal antibodies.
  • Four novel antibodies to highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (VR-1608, VR-1609, VR-1641 and VR-1642) are recent additions to this product category.
  • A series of nucleic acid products from viruses are designed to save you time by providing quality, ready-to-use reagents for your experiments.
  • Adenovirus Reference Materials (VR-1516 and VR-1616) are now available from ATCC. These human adenovirus and AAV preparations can be used to calibrate the infectious titer and particle concentration of your laboratory's adenoviral and AAV vector controls. See the product guides for more information.
  • For scientists conducting SARS research ATCC offers coronaviruses from a range of species and the cell lines needed to cultivate them.
  • The Plant Virology Collection includes plant viruses and monoclonal antisera against plant viruses, and molecular clones of viral genes.
