hTERT Immortalized Cell Lines

   hTERT Immortalized Cell Lines

ATCC human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) immortalized cell lines represent a breakthrough in cell biology research that combines the in vivo nature of primary cells and the ability to survive continuously in culture of traditional cell lines.

Until recently, cell biologists had to choose between established cell lines and primary cells as the basis for their experimental models, but both options had their flaws. Primary cells senesce after a few passages and are expensive to purchase over the course of a study. Traditional cell lines are genetically unstable and present inconsistent phenotypes over time. Now, with hTERT cell lines from ATCC cell biologists can avoid the limitations of both types while still reaping their benefits.

In addition to standard ATCC authentication, all ATCC hTERT cell lines are tested for:
  • Extended proliferative capacity
  • Stable genotype
  • Selected phenotypic markers from the tissue of interest
  • Continued expression of hTERT
