Dr. Raymond Cypess 

Raymond H. Cypess, DVM, PhD
Chairman, CEO

Raymond is Chairman and CEO of ATCC and ATCC Global. In this role, he has demonstrated the ability to apply business acumen, fiscal responsibility and innovative approaches to the management of a non-profit/profit corporate structure. He holds a DVM from the University of Illinois and a PhD in parasitology from the University of North Carolina.

Prior to joining ATCC, Raymond was Dean of the College of Graduate Health Sciences, Professor of Microbiology and Immunology and Comparative Medicine, and Vice Provost for Research and Research Training, at the University of Tennessee, Memphis. He was awarded the University of Tennessee Memphis College of Medicine Outstanding Teacher Award for 1989–1993. Raymond has been an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Microbiology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Public Health and Professor and Chairman at the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine.

Raymond participated on National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease (NIAID) scientific review boards and various NIH Study Sections and served on several editorial boards. He is the author of more than 80 chapters, reviews, and journal articles, a fellow in the Infectious Disease Society, and a member of the American Epidemiology Society. At ATCC, he has served as principal investigator on numerous grants and contracts, including the Malaria Research & Reference Reagent Resource Center (MR4) and the Biodefense & Emerging Infectious Research Resources Repository (BEI) from NIAID. He has served on boards of the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ corporations as well as Director and Treasurer of the Virginia Biotechnology Authority.

Dr. Brian Pollok 

Brian Pollok, PhD
President

Brian is President and a member of the Board of Directors of ATCC Global. He oversees the strategic direction of ATCC as well as the operational implementation of that strategy.

Prior to joining ATCC in April 2011, Brian was Chief Scientific Officer and Head of Global Science & Innovation at Life Technologies/Invitrogen. He also served as VP of R&D for Invitrogen’s Discovery Sciences business. Prior to that role, he served as Senior Vice President of R&D and Co-Founder at Ansata Therapeutics, as Vice President of Discovery Biology at Aurora Biosciences/Vertex Pharmaceuticals, and Senior Research Investigator at Pfizer Central Research. Brian has also served as Assistant Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Wake Forest University.

Brian received his BA in biology and chemistry from the University of Virginia and his PhD from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He is a member of the editorial board of the journal ASSAY, a board member of Virginia BIO, and is an advisor to the NIH and several non-profit disease organizations. Brian has received an American Cancer Society Faculty Research Award and an Arthritis Foundation Investigator Award, and is an inventor on multiple issued US and EU patents.
 
Dr. Drew Cawthon

Drew Cawthon, PhD
Director, Government Contracts

Drew oversees the management of ATCC’s multiple government contracts. These contracts cover the areas of infectious disease, cancer and toxins, and serve to provide quality controlled standardized biological reagents, assays, and services to support investigators in basic and applied research with the goal of providing consistent results among laboratories. Drew also oversees the CORES laboratories which support technology development across ATCC’s three business units.

Prior to joining ATCC, Drew served as the Director of Preclinical Microbiology and Immunotoxicology at Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute, where he managed a biocontainment facility and the scientific and technical staff that supported preclinical evaluation of vaccines and therapeutics targeting biodefense pathogens, toxins, and emerging infectious diseases. He received his PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from Wake Forest University School of Medicine.

Dr. Sherry Challberg 

Sherry Challberg, PhD
VP/General Manager
ATCC Cell Systems

Sherry leads the ATCC Cell Systems business unit. She and her team are developing integrated in vitro cell culture systems that accurately reflect in vivo biology and sustain cell biology and drug discovery research.

Prior to joining ATCC, Sherry founded and served as the Chief Executive Officer of a venture-backed life science reagents company, Marligen Biosciences, Inc., which was acquired in late 2009. She has held senior level management positions at Life Technologies, Invitrogen Corporation and Digene Diagnostics. Sherry has served on the Board of Directors for the Frederick Innovative Technology Center, the Tech Council of Maryland, and MdBio. She received her PhD in biochemistry from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.
 
Matthew Chorley 

Matthew Chorley, MBA
Sr. Dir. of Operations

Matthew oversees strategic operations management to include facilities, production planning, production, quality control and product storage, packaging and global distribution.

Prior to joining ATCC, Matthew was the General Manager of Genpure Corporation and held a previous management role as Division Manager and Director of Operations at BioSource International Incorporated (now Life Technologies). Additionally, he has held management roles in product development and manufacturing at Metrigenix, Inc. and Digene Corporation. Matthew serves on the Strategic Advisory Board for George Mason University-Prince William and on the Library Board, George Mason University-Fairfax.

Dr. Jeff Hung 

Jeff Hung, PhD, MBA
Chief Marketing Officer

Jeff, an innovative leader in quantitative and evidence-based marketing, oversees the global sales and marketing strategy as well as customer services and technical support practices. He is a member of the board of directors of BCI, a non-profit organization that serves underprivileged ethnic groups.

Prior to joining ATCC, Jeff was Senior Director of Marketing at QIAGEN. Prior to that role, he served as the Senior Director of Marketing at SABiosciences, contributing to significant growth leading its acquisition by QIAGEN. He has held management and R&D positions at Invitrogen, Union Biometrica and Exelixis. Jeff earned his PhD from Cornell University, MBA from UC Berkeley, and BS from Peking University.
 
Matthew Klusas 

Matthew Klusas, MS
Dir. of Corporate Development

Matthew oversees business development, strategic partnerships, intellectual property, licensing, and international distributor relationships for ATCC .

Prior to joining ATCC, Matthew worked at Life Technologies as an integration leader and Chief of Staff for the Genetic Systems Division. He held roles at McKinsey & Co., Deutsche Bank, the Chicago Board of Trade, and the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Matthew has been published in the McKinsey Quarterly and the Credit Union Journal. He received a BS from the Illinois State University and an MSc from the London School of Economics.

Wil Priester 

Wil Priester, MBA
Sr. VP of F&A and CFO

Wil leads the corporate finance and accounting operations for ATCC and its affiliates. He also oversees the treasury, tax compliance, and risk management activities.

Prior to joining ATCC, Wil was Managing Director and Chief Financial Officer of Blue Water Capital, a venture capital firm in the information technology sector, and has held management positions at MedImmune and Coopers & Lybrand. Wil has served on the board of directors for several private companies and is a co-founder and former board member of Lorien Wood, a K-8 school. He received a BS in commerce from the University of Virginia and an MBA from Georgetown University.
 
Frank Simione 

Frank Simione, MS
Acting Sr. Dir. for BioCollections and Standards

Frank is responsible for ATCC’s collection holdings and the products and services derived from them. He also oversees regulatory compliance, quality assurance and biosafety programs, the ATCC Standards Development Organization and chairs ATCC’s Institutional Review Board for human subjects’ research.

Frank has been with ATCC for 37 years, the last 23 years as a member of senior management. He played a leading role in developing ATCC’s management services activities and the current portfolio of government contracts. Prior to this current role, Frank served as Director of Operations and was responsible for ATCC’s training program and patent deposit service.

Carl Tidwell 

Carl Tidwell, MS
Chief Information Officer

Carl serves as the senior information technology advisor for the organization. He manages all aspects of information technology and services and advises business and functional unit leadership on technology solutions aligned with business strategy.

Prior to joining ATCC, Carl worked in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry, where he most recently served as Director of Manufacturing and Application System at Nektar Therapeutics. Carl has held technology leadership roles at Syrrx, Pfizer, Warner-Lambert, Healthcare Investment Analyst, and Electronic Data Systems. In addition, Carl spent several years involved in basic medical research at Henry Ford Hospital Research Foundation in the areas of oncology, nephrology, and neurology research.
 
Nancy Wysocki 

Nancy Wysocki, MA, MS
VP, Human Resources

Nancy provides leadership and direction for all human resources programs, policies, activities and operations. She serves as a partner and advisor to the executive leadership team to align HR strategy, career development and planning with the organization’s goals. Nancy leads a team focused on talent acquisition and management.

Prior to joining ATCC in 1995, Nancy worked in the clinical healthcare environment. At AML, Inc. (now Quest Diagnostics), she directed the corporate training and development and then held the senior leadership role as Director of Human Resources where she served 1500 employees in a multi-state environment. Nancy is a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources and is a member of the Society for Human Resource Management.
