With unique expertise in the management of biological resources, ATCC is well positioned to join forces with other organizations to enhance its role as a supplier of authenticated biological reference materials to the scientific community. ATCC is actively engaged in partnerships with academic institutions, government agencies and the private sector. Some examples:
Research Collaborations ATCC scientists are involved in research and development projects with research groups around the world. Some examples include collaborations between the ATCC Mycology Collection and researchers at Duke University in Durham, NC and another with researchers at the University of Guelph in Ontario, Canada. The ATCC Developmental Biology Department currently collaborates with investigators at King's College in London and the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md. The ATCC Immunology Program maintains collaborative relationships with scientists a Hadassah Research Institute in Jerusalem, Israel, The Valley Hospital in Ridgewood, NJ and Innovative Biosensors Inc. of Rockville, Md.
Business Collaborations ATCC has forged business partnerships in support of its mission with companies such as Roche Diagnostics, Geron and amaxa.
Licensed Derivative Program ATCC created the LD program to ensure that ATCC organisms used in commercial QC microbiology products were identified correctly and are uncontaminated. The growing list of firms that participate in this program includes Remel Inc., Microbiologics, Gibson, and Mecconti.
Proficiency Standard Program ATCC created the proficiency test program to ensure the quality, authenticity and traceability of materials used in proficiency test panels. There is a growing group of nine organizations involved in laboratory proficiency test manufacturing and distributing that participate in the program. Examples are the College of American Pathology, Remel Inc. and the Cleveland Clinic.
Special Collections ATCC has arrangements with several organizations to operate special collections of materials for use by the scientific community. For example, U.S. National Parks Service and The Johns Hopkins University.
Distributors ATCC operates a network of global distributors that facilitate access to ATCC materials by foreign investigators.
